Domingo-Thornton Young Artist Program The Domingo-Thornton Young Artist Program, under the direction of Eli and Edythe Broad General Director Plácido Domingo and Karen Ashley, Director of the Program, is designed to develop the talents of exceptionally gifted young artists to become performers of potentially international stature. Beginning with the 2006-2007 season, LA Opera will invite up to 8 young singers, 2 coaches, 1 conductor and 1 stage director in the early stages of their careers to participate in the Program which provides intense musical coaching, voice lessons, language studies, acting, movement and performance opportunities. Program participants will receive a stipend for a two-or-three-year period so that they can work full-time on their artistic development during the critical stage between the end of their formal academic or conservatory training and the onset of steady performing careers. Preliminary auditions will be held in Los Angeles on April 10, 11, 12, 2006. Final auditions, which will be judged by Plácido Domingo and LA Opera’s new Music Director, James Conlon, will be held on April 13, 2006.
