Los Angeles Opera's 2004-2005 Season marks a watershed year for the relatively young company. In just nineteen seasons, Los Angeles Opera has become, under the leadership of Eli and Edythe Broad General Director Plácido Domingo, the United States' fifth largest opera house and now "...stands out as a newly important force in American Opera." (Mark Swed, Los Angeles Times). With 100 performances in all, a 30% increase over the previous Season, the groundbreaking 2004-2005 Season features the most performances that the Company has ever presented at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Four new productions (Ariadne auf Naxos, Vanessa, Roméo et Juliette, Der Rosenkavalier), two productions new to Los Angeles (Idomeneo, Carmen), three revivals (La bohème, Aida, Falstaff), three recitals (with the celebrated artists Bryn Terfel, Renée Fleming and Susan Graham) and a special summer presentation of Sondheim’s A Little Night Music make the current Season the largest in Los Angeles Opera history as the Company assumes its position as the primary producing entity at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
